

In ROKAF, presently O-2 aircraft is employed for conducting a close air support operation. O-2 aircraft was
developed in 1960s. It has been used for more than 30 years and its body is worn out. It is very urgent to replace O-2
aircraft to a new model.
Concerning this matter, ADD has commenced developing Slow FAC as a following project of KT-1 in April, 1999.

KA-1 development has succeeded in conducting a test flight and launching as well as passing all sorts of
examinations. In July, 2003, it acquired the approval of the Ministry of National Defense that it is appropriate
to be used in a combat. Now KAI Corp. is putting efforts on the mass-production.
Compared to KT-1, KA-1 is improved in avionics and weapon system. It has newly developed external parts
such as Head-up Display(HUD), Multi-Function Display(MFD), WCS, ASC & Pylon, external fuel tank, and LAU-
131. Moreover, Night Vision Instrument System(NVIS) to improve ability of communication?navigation system
and Auto Rudder Trim System(ARTS) for effective flight control when launching are added. Also efforts to
domestically produce hydrulic brake system and the other systems are made and ILS are developed for
smooth logistic supports when employing.

KA-1 system development subsequent to KT-1 has made us to approach one step further to the development of
supersonic speed fighter which is the core of an airplane. We have independently designed and developed avionics
and weapon system and achieved the rapid growth of domestic air development technology in a short period of time.
Therefore, continuous interests and investment in development of domestic air weapon system will make us to see
domestic fighters flying over and protecting our airspace.
